The Park Ridge Green Team Message:
The formation of a “Green Team” is the first step in establishing a community sustainability program and is the mechanism for creating an understanding of what sustainability means to our community. The Green team leverages the skills and expertise of team members to develop plans, implement programs, and support educational opportunities that assist the creation of a sustainable community.
Park Ridge has joined joined dozens of municipalities all over New Jersey in working toward certification with Sustainable Jersey, the statewide environmental program started in 2008. Sustainable Jersey (www.sustainablejersey.com) awards “points” and priority for grants to fund projects that improve community environmental sustainability.
Certified Bergen County municipalities include Rutherford, Leonia, Hillsdale, Westwood, River Edge, River Vale and Saddle River. These towns earned their certification by completing actions from an extensive checklist. Points are awarded for diverse actions including measuring the community’s carbon footprint, using alternative energy sources, installing community and school gardens and promoting other sustainable practices.
The Borough of Park Ridge has already begun to implement new programs leading us towards our goals, including the new town wide Renewable Solar Energy Systems on our Education Buildings, energy audits for Borough Hall and local government buildings in addition to new environmental education on Park Ridge TV!
